UPDATED: David Cronenberg Turned Down Offer To Direct A Sequel Trilogy Film
Reported by Justin on 23 Jun 2014 14:21

UPDATE: False alarm. Turns out this story was in reference to Cronenberg being asked to direct Return of the Jedi way back in the day and the $200 million budget was in regards the 2012 remake of Total Recall. Thanks to Jeremy and Roy for the clarification.

We get word via that director David Cronenberg was approached by a Disney/Lucasfilm representative (at least, that's who we're assuming made the initial contact) to helm an episode in the upcoming Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, but passed on the opportunity.

The Canadian filmmaker admitted he was offered the chance to take the reins on one of the instalments of the beloved sci-fi series as he was honoured with the "filmmaker on the edge" trophy at the Provincetown Film Festival, said The Hollywood Reporter.

"I got a phone call once asking if I was interested in directing one of the Star Wars sequels, and instead of saying, 'Oh my God, yes!' I said, 'Well, you know, I don't really do other people's material'. Click," he recalled.

"I don't know how far it would have gone but it ended there," he added, without revealing which film it was.
