Harrison Ford takes on a new roll as he appears in public for the first time since breaking his leg on the Star Wars film set.

The actor, 71, was in a wheelchair and had his lower left leg in a plaster cast as he prepared to jet back from London to the US for rehabilitation.

His leg was crushed nine days ago by a spaceship door as he reprised his role as Han Solo, 31 years since his last outing in the sci-fi franchise. He was airlifted to hospital from the Pinewood Studios set, and later had surgery in London.
