John Morton Shares Details on Star Wars Rebels & Episode VII
Reported by Justin on 06 May 2014 00:00

During his appearance at the Star Wars Fan Fun Day in Burnley, Lancashire, our good buddy John "Dak" Morton shared some interesting information on Episode VII and Star Wars Rebels. There's quite a bit of info to get thru, so let's jump right into it.

On the impact Rebels is expected to have on Episode VII:

“Rebels is the key. Rebels will provide the link to bring in the continuity from Clone Wars, the Original Trilogy and the Prequels to enable LucasFilm and Disney to tee-up ‘Episode VII’. If you want my informed opinion, it will enable ‘Episode VII’ to leapfrog over the whole trilogy.”

“The key that is going to make this work is Rebels. Rebels will set up and point the direction for ‘Episode VII’.”

On if there will be any overlap in characters between Rebels and Episode VII:

“The characters they are creating in Rebels will be around in ‘Episode VII’.”

Based on this comment from Morton, the author of this article goes on to make the following speculative casting correlations:

Oscar Isaac will play Kanan – the cowboy Jedi. Could you imagine a better synopsis for the offspring of Han Solo and Leia Skywalker?

We also expect Andy Serkis to play Zeb – the muscles. With Andy Serkis confirmed to bring a motion captured character to the film, how about this muscles bound, gun-wielding big guy?

Also, Billy Dee Williams is reprising Lando as a voice role in Star Wars Rebels. With him not being announced in the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII – does this mean the actor will be in J.J. Abrams’ movie in at least a cameo capacity?

It will be extremely interesting to see how much of this turns out to be 100% accurate across both Rebels and Episode VII as the months move along.
