Jedi News is by fans for fans and we believe the vast majority of UK Star Wars fans are supporting Celebration Europe. For the first time ever we’re finally getting an Official Star Wars convention in the UK, let alone Europe, and it upsets me that people on some sites/forums are being so negative.
So far there’s been 24 guests announced, one has unfortunately had to drop out for reasons beyond the Organisers control. There are still a lot more guests yet to be revealed.
So my question is simple… Why are some people knocking the event before they even know the true extent of who’s going to be there and what activities and events have been planned?
With regards autographs, people have to understand, like everything here in the UK, things are more expensive than we’d like. If you factor in the cost of travel, hotels, food etc then the UK costs are probably double than those of the US. However, people had a choice to go to the US, to Celebration IV (and many did), but they had to pay for their travel, hotels and food and if you work that out over the autographs they got they would have cost more than those at Celebration Europe!
From the plans I’ve seen and the discussions I’ve had, Celebration Europe will be a great event. It’s been worked on 24×7 for the last 10 months and if just half of the things we’ve been told/shown come to fruition the event will be better than most could imagine. It is such an important event for Star Wars fans in Europe and the UK and people should be giving it their full support. I was always told “if you haven’t got anything good to say then don’t say it”!
So I urge people to get behind Celebration Europe, embrace the fact that we actually have a European convention for the first time in 30 years; help celebrate the anniversary of Star Wars in style and if you’ve nothing constructive to say please, for the sake of everybody that’s working so hard to make this event work, keep it to yourselves.
