DOUBLE CROSS! ENFYS NEST has HAN SOLO and his crew dead to rights… But will Enfys’ surprising revelation persuade Han to change his plans for the stolen coaxium…or will a betrayal in his crew be his undoing?!
The promise of extra scenes that we never saw in the movie; I can’t remember when we last saw one in this adaptation. Yet in this issue, there is one! One! Count it! The one little scene we get is when Enfys Nest is explaining the background to Crimson Dawn. Now, I have to say that seeing it (all three panels) was really cool. It was a great addition to add and I like the backstory to it. Did it mean more because I feel like we’ve been that starved in this series for extra bits? Possibly. It did make me realise just how much is missing from this adaptation. To be able to get excited about three panels just shows how in dire need this series is for something extra, something new.
And while I’ve been able to at least complement the art work by Sliney, which on the whole is good in this issue, it would be remiss of me not to mention Dryden’s eyes in several of the panels. They look very out of place and it took me out of the story. You could argue that this is a minor quibble, but they are very very striking!
As always, the rest of the issue follows the story almost word for word and again I’m left deflated at the missed opportunity. I don’t want to keep repeating myself in these reviews, but Marvel needs to realise that the classic adaptation is in need of a change, to evolve with just how far films and home cinema have come. Say what you like about the film, but read through the adaptation of The Last Jedi, it shows exactly how adaptations in today’s world should be done. It retells the story and yet provides you with a completely different take on it. All I can really say is, at least there is only one more issue to go before this series can be one with the force…
Solo is a seven part series available from Marvel. This issue is available via the Marvel App and all good comic book stores. This issue retails at $3.99.
