The Review;

Never judge a book by its cover I’ve always been told. That is a fair assumption on many books I have read, but this one bucks that trend. The cover is vibrant and exciting, with a great picture of Chewbacca sporting his goggles on Vandor. I really like the design and the feel. The embossed lettering and glossy pictures, really make this book stand out.

The book takes us behind the scenes of the Creature Shop that has become an integral part of Star Wars movie production.

It is very clever the way it utilises interviews and comments from members of the creative team and the actors and puppeteers who then brought these creations to life. This gives multiple perspectives of the work and processes undertaken on and off camera.

The addition of the little fold out sections to give further information and views is brilliant, it made the book 3 dimensional in a way. The balance of word to pictures is perfect. Lot’s of information, but backed up with some amazing pictures.

As this was released at the same time as ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and all its related literature there had to be some reference to the latest additions to the creature and alien cast list.

I usually try and pick out one or two items to highlight and say that these were my favourite parts, but I really am struggling, because I enjoyed this book so much. I think I will have to let the pictures I’ve selected to accompany this review speak for themselves.

This book is a perfect companion to all of ‘The Art of…’ series of books and it dovetails nicely and further develops the concept art.

But then, here’s the good part. On looking at the back cover I see the words “Abrams Books for Young Readers”! This is a book actually aimed at the younger generation of Star Wars fans. I must say the way this book is presented and the information within, it is worth any fan regardless of age picking up. Don’t be put off that your local book store may have it stowed away in the children’s books section.

In summary, a classy looking book, which continues at that same high level throughout. And at £21.99, I think it is very good value.
