The circle is now complete. Newsarama has revealed that Charles Soule has made Luke Skywalker’s yellow lightsaber canon!
Marvel Comics’ Star Wars series is currently exploring the post-Empire Strikes Back period, and in May, writer Charles Soule and artist Jesús Saiz will send Luke Skywalker on a quest to replace his father’s lightsaber, lost on Bespin – and it looks like he’ll find a new, yellow-bladed replacement.
The new yellow lightsaber debuts in this cover from R.B. Silva. It’s safe to assume it’s a stopgap before Luke builds the green lightsaber seen in Return of the Jedi – but it could have a deeper connection to Star Wars mythos, with Rey wielding a yellow lightsaber at the end of Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars #6 is due out in May. Look for Marvel Comics full May 2020 solicitations right here on Newsarama later this month.
Star Wars fans across the globe have always puzzled over Luke’s yellow lightsaber in the vintage releases of his action figures, so it’s brilliant to see that Soule has brought it into the latest Star Wars storyline published by Marvel Comics.
While some might have enjoyed learning this in the issue, hey, Christmas came early this year.
Why will Luke Skywalker have a yellow
lightsaber in the Star Wars run I’m writing, set between Empire and Jedi? Well, many reasons, but here’s a big one. https://t.co/31hZtpDsIg pic.twitter.com/j4L92qZ0A8
