The Synopsis:

The first FORCE AWAKENS era comic series continues! Who is Captain Terrex of the First Order…and how did he find Poe’s squadron? Can Poe and company beat Terrex to their prize?

It has been thirty years since the defeat of the Empire, but a new threat has arrived. General Leia Organa is leading the Resistance to keep the First Order at bay.

Leia has tasked star pilot Poe Dameron with finding Lor San Tekka—an explorer who may know the location of Luke Skywalker. Poe has assembled a team of pilots—Black Squadron—and together they have set off to the explorer’s last known whereabouts: a planet whose residents worship and care for a massive egg.

Meanwhile, Poe’s droid, BB-8, has discovered a tracker on Poe’s X-wing, a tracker Poe believes was placed there by the First Order. Poe’s suspicions are proven correct when he discovers the enemy is closer than anticipated…

The Plot:

We carry on where we left off, the First Order have arrived in the form of jetpack wearing Stormtroopers and a new character by the name of ‘Agent Terex’. Terex is piloting a special forces speeder with the red stripes along the flank like the ties seen in The Force Awakens, hot on the tail off BB-8 & Poe. The agent and a large group of Stormtroopers crash their way into the large underground cavern where they are greeted by the blaster wielding guardians of the blue glowing egg, who are most displeased at the intrusion and start to cover for our heroes, telling the agent that our heroes are not there.

The next phase of the story is a flashback that sees Agent Terex aboard his ship holding court with a holo projected image of none other than Captain Phasma herself, who is issuing Terex with his instructions to capture Poe Dameron.

Back into the present and Terex finds out that our heroes are still in the area, Poe predicts that danger is just around the corner and instructs BB-8 to send a message to Black Squadron whom are still above the surface that they need some ‘leverage’ to help in the current sticky situation that they find themselves in.

The Resistance pilots of Black Squadron tease the First Order Tie pilots into a dog fight and then accidentally severely damage the flight deck of the hidden First Order base and it topples onto the entrance of the cavern trapping everyone inside!

Meanwhile, in the cavern itself Poe reveals himself to Agent Terex and attempts to defuse the predicament he finds himself in by using his leverage that is taking place above the ground. Unfortunately Terex calls Poes’ bluff and orders the Flame thrower Stormtroopers to open fire on the precious egg which leaves the eggs band of worshippers distraught. Terex also reveals the bigger picture to Poe, that he has a ship in orbit with large squadrons of fighters ready to destroy Black Squadron. To be continued……..

The Review:

This is what i love about the comics, every once in a while they throw you a curve ball in the form of a new character that you won’t or wouldn’t get in the films or other forms of media, In this case, Agent Terex! Who is this mysterious man and where did he come from? From the clues he’s an ex trooper who holds the Galactic Empire in high esteem as opposed to the current First Order, he has artifacts from that era on his ship too. Terex also has his own ship and slaves, which would indicate a man of wealth, power and knowledge given the way he reveals information he knows to Captain Phasma. It was good to see Captain Phasma get a bit more time in the galaxy, even if it was brief, I like a lot of people would like to see more of her.

Still no ‘major’ clues have been revealed about the glowing egg or its relevance to the plot, only the cult worshippers seem to know, maybe all will be revealed in time.

This issue was pretty much a continuation of the first in story content, writing style & art. A great continuation of the story in my opinion and i am looking forward to more of the same in this story arc.
