Carrie Fisher’s Family Disavows Upcoming Book

The upcoming book Carrie Fisher: A Life on the Edge written by Shelia Weller has been disavowed by her family, and they have issued a statement.

Bryan Lourd, CAA co-chairman, issued a statement on behalf of himself and his daughter, Billie, about author Sheila Weller’s Carrie Fisher: A Life on the Edge, which apparently discusses the Star Wars actress’ final hours before her untimely death in December 2016.

“A person named Sheila Weller has taken it upon herself to sell and write an unauthorized biography based on my daughter’s mother, Carrie Fisher,” said Lourd. “I do not know Ms. Weller. Billie does not know Ms. Weller. And, to my knowledge, Carrie did not know her.”

Weller, according to Lourd, sold the book without any family involvement in its contents. A Life on the Edge is set to be published Nov. 12 by Sarah Crichton Books.

“For all the fans and friends of Carrie, I just thought it necessary that you know this information before you decided to purchase this book or consider what is being said in the upcoming press interviews Weller will do while trying to sell it,” Lourd’s statement continued. “To be clear I haven’t read the book. The only books about Carrie Fisher worth reading are the ones Carrie wrote herself. She perfectly told us everything we needed to know.”

Fisher’s brother, Todd, told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday that he was also opposed to the book. “I don’t understand how you can write a book about Carrie without talking to those who knew her best,” he said.

Todd Fisher has written his own book on his sister and late mother, actress Debbie Reynolds, titled My Girls. “I will never judge her, only love her,” he said of his sister. “I will always be inspired by her life and all she accomplished in the face of great adversity. Only people walking in her shoes, with her condition can truly understand the trials of her life. All those that are perfect please stand up. The rest of us will remain seated.”

Out of respect for the family, we too will also cease any further publicity for this book.
