It’s day twenty-one of the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 2018, and today we add a mini-build from a film not yet represented in this year’s calendar.
Behind todays’ door is a 74-Z Speeder Bike as seen on the forest moon of Endor during the events of Return of the Jedi. This instantly recognisable build is one of my favourites from this year’s calendar. The bag contains 26 pieces, of which only 20 are used in the build. It’s great to see Return of the Jedi represented here.
The origin of the LEGO version of 74-S Speeder Bikes can be traced back to the first year of LEGO Star Wars in 1999, almost twenty years ago. Set #7128 contained two identical Speeder Bikes with Scout Troopers and Luke Skywalker. Over the years, there have been seven minifigure based sets that have included a Speeder Bike inspired by the events of Return of the Jedi. More Speeder Bikes, of a similar design, have appeared in Hoth sets too (not discussed here), as well as numerous other sets from Rebels, The Clone Wars, and Attack of the Clones to mention but a few. Here’s details of the other sets to have included a 74-Z Speeder Bike from Return of the Jedi.
A Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper was part of the Ewok Attack set (#7139) released in 2002. The Battle of Endor (#8028), released in 2009, was a large playset that featured the Bunker, Ewok Glider, AT-ST and more. This set came with two Speeder Bikes and Scout Troopers. Also in 2009, polybag #30005 contained a Speeder Bike with a Stormtrooper (not a Scout). Ewok Attack (#7596) released in 2011 also included a Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper. 2012 saw the release of the Endor Trooper and Imperial Trooper Battle Back (#9489) which included, among other things, a Speeder Bike and Scout Trooper. The 2013 release of the huge 1990 piece Ewok Village (#10236) included a single Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper. In 2017, the Scout Trooper and Speeder Bike appeared as the first (and potentially only) Buildable figure with vehicle (#75532).
After twenty-one days the list of builds from this year’s Advent Calendar now includes The Phantom Menace, Revenge of the Sith, The Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Legends and LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures.
Join us at 5:01pm GMT tomorrow for a look behind door twenty-two.
