Yesterday, we attended the launch of the LEGO Group’s Rebuild the World campaign at the LEGO House in Billund.
We arrived in Billund from London just before 10am and headed straight for the LEGO House in the center of Billund. It was here that Julia Goldin, LEGO Chief Marketing Officer, explained the concepts behind the advert before sharing it for those present. You can watch the advert here, and we suggest watching it a couple of times to take everything in. After the advert reveal, a panel which included David Aguilar (Hand Solo, a builder of LEGO prosthetic arms), Matthew Ashton (LEGO VP of Design), Kate Robinson, Mark Ronson (Record Producer) and Dominic Wilcox (Designer/Inventor) spoke about how LEGO inspired their creativity. At the end of the panel we were invited to watch 100 children Rebuild the World with their own LEGO creations. Our friends Chris and Huw from Brickset.com were also in attendance and they live streamed the panel which can be watched here.
We then had a quick bite to eat before heading out to do a little shopping before returning back to the LEGO House. A number of activities for those in attendance had been provided including tours of the LEGO House, LEGO Ideas House and the factory. Daniel had never visited LEGO before and went on the tours of the Ideas House and factory. Whilst Daniel did the tours I was able to spend some time interviewing several LEGO designers. I spent 45 minutes with Hendrik Anderson, designer of the new UCS Imperial Star Destroyer, with Chris from Brickset. I then spoke to Carl Merriam about LEGO Star Wars Droid Commander (#75253), Fenella Charity about LEGO Friends and a brief chat with Siddarth Muthyala about SPIKE: Prime (being released in early 2020).
We then had a meal with Chris and Huw before making our way back to the airport for our journey home. It was an inspirational day, and we are thankful to the LEGO Group for inviting us to share the launch of this new campaign.
