Jedi News Interview: Kevin Hearne

It’s our pleasure to welcome to Jedi News the author of the latest Star Wars novel Heir to the Jedi and the author of among many others the Iron Druid Chronicles. Please welcome to the site for a mini interview Kevin Hearne.

JN: Do you think this tale you told is an important step in Luke’s journey?

KH: Heck yes! This period has always been the most fascinating and mysterious hole in the story to me. How does Luke go from vaguely feeling the Force at the Battle of Yavin to being able to summon his lightsaber to his hand in the wampa cave? That was a huge progression and he didn’t have any help. I’ve always wanted to connect those dots.

JN: Did Vader secretly find the song that Nakari’s Mom wrote about him funny, or was he legitimately offended? How do you think it would go?

KH: Legitimately offended. Losing his limbs and burning his skin into pork crackling was terribly traumatic and represented all of his personal failings. Anything that reminded him of that would have to be thrown into a deep, dark hole, and hey! He just happened to have the spice mines of Kessel handy.

JN: Would you want to work in the Star Wars universe again?

KH: The story of Luke’s early growth in the Force was truly the only one I wanted to tell. And I’m busy with my own series—I’m currently working on the eighth book of the Iron Druid Chronicles.

JN: Who is your favorite Star Wars character?

KH: Honestly, it’s Admiral Ackbar. He sort of has this moist charisma, you know?
