It’s a period of slow official news time right now, so let’s switch things up a bit and toss this out there to see if it sticks – would Lucasfilm/Disney be open to the possibility of releasing the cancelled animated series Star Wars Detours via the new Disney Digital Network that was announced several days ago?
We learned back in April of 2014 that it was solely Lucasfilm’s decision to pull the plug on the comedic series that had nearly 40 episodes ready to go (with 30 of those episodes considered suitable for release). Then, a few months before Star Wars Celebration Anaheim was set to take place, we heard a rumor that Detours would finally be arriving via part of the large-scale digital release of Star Wars content planned for May 2015. That obviously (and sadly) turned out to not be the case, leaving us wondering if the series would ever see the light of day.
So after all that, we’re right back to where we were in 2014 – hoping & praying the wrapping is removed from Detours and presented to the fan community. Is the new Disney Digital Network a viable delivery method for the series? Would the higher-ups even be willing/open to considering this proposal?
From what we’ve seen in the trailer (check it out below) and various clips, Detours is just too damn good of a property to let fall by the wayside. It deserves a proper release.
Fingers and toes tightly crossed…
