UPDATE: Since the initial time of this posting, Lucasfilm has updated the official casting announcement on StarWars.com to include Keri Russell in the list of Episode IX cast members.
Earlier today Lucasfilm officially announced the cast and filming start date for director J.J. Abrams’ Episode IX. The cast features returning Sequel Trilogy actors/actresses Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and more along with the return of Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher (via unused footage from The Force Awakens). Newcomers Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant were also announced as part of the cast, marking their debut in the GFFA.
Missing from the official casting announcement is actress Keri Russell, who was reported earlier this month by several media outlets as being in talks to join the cast. While her name was not mentioned in the Lucasfilm presser, Variety says Russell has in fact “closed her deal” and will be part of the Episode IX cast. Sources at Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter are reporting the same thing along with sources at Entertainment Weekly. So we can most likely expect her casting announcement from Lucasfilm to come in the very near future.
