On the day that J.J. Abrams is confirmed as the director of episode 9, writing over at The Metro I have a look at what role General Leia might play in the eighth movie.

By the end of The Force Awakens Leia has to cope not only with the destruction of the Hosnian system and, with it, the New Republic but also the murder of her former love Han Solo at the hands of their son, Ben Solo AKA Kylo Ren.

Furthermore, Leia now knows that her long-lost twin brother Luke Skywalker has been found on the hidden world of Ahch-To, believed to be the location of the very first Jedi temple.

More than that, she also knows a bruised and bloodied First Order will be gunning for the Resistance, stepping from the shadows of the Unknown Regions with their monster Mega Star Destroyer the Supremacy, a vehicle 37 miles in width.
