With The Rise of Skywalker wowing audiences and dominating at the box office (how many times have you seen it?), the conclusion to the Skywalker saga is upon us, something I never thought I’d ever be typing let alone experiencing in real life. So what now? What direction does Lucasfilm/Disney take our beloved franchise in as we look towards the horizon?
It was reported back in November that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy would be making an announcement on the Star Wars film slated for 2022 sometime in January. Another report from a month later doubled down on this same time frame in terms of Kennedy making important decisions on the future of the franchise. We do not know if these reports include Lucasfilm making any official announcements to the general public about the 2022 film (or even films/projects further down the line) or if this information would be kept internally for the time being.
Will the 2022 film be helmed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson as part of his on-going work with the franchise? What about the Star Wars project being developed by Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige? Will either of them be attached to 2022’s offering?
