Release Date For ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Pushed Back To July 9, 2021

Confirming earlier reports from last month, Disney has announced today that the official theatrical release date for director Steven Spielberg’s currently-untitled Indiana Jones 5 has been pushed back to July 9, 2021 per The Hollywood Reporter. Lead actor Harrison Ford, currently 75 years old and still going strong, will be nearly 79 when Indy 5 lands in theaters (his birthday is July 13).

The delay is most likely tied to the reports of Jonathan Kasdan assuming the writing duties from David Koepp.

Disney has pushed back the release of Indiana Jones 5 one year, to July 9, 2021, the studio said Tuesday.

The move was widely expected. The movie was set to open on July 10, 2020, but production has been delayed because of script issues. Steven Spielberg is set to direct the fifth outing in the classic adventure series.

The studio made a slew of other changes to its calendar, including announcing that Dwayne Johnson starrer Jungle Cruise will open in theaters on Oct. 11, 2019, while Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent 2 will hit theaters on May 29, 2020.

Filming for Indy 5 was scheduled to begin next April in the UK, but it remains to be seen how/if this new release date will affect that initial scheduling plan.
