The folks over at Screen Rant were able to spend some time speaking with Adam Driver at Sunday’s global press event for The Last Jedi. Driver, who returns to Episode VIII as the conflicted (and father-murdering) Force-wielder Kylo Ren, revealed that if you are hoping to have answers to all of your burning questions about his character by the time the end credits roll for 2019’s Episode IX, you’re gonna be disappointed.
Driver likes keeping things under wraps. We already know his stance on the idea of trailers being released for films (he’s not a fan of ’em). Here’s what Driver had to say about continuing the secrecy surrounding his Sequel Trilogy character:
“Sure. I mean, there’s like a bits of pieces that we started working on that kind of, I know are answered in this one that we kind of started in The Force Awakens, that I knew was operating you know when we were doing that one, that I knew as time went that they kind of reveal themselves but even if those things, there’s a lot of those things that will never be revealed and there’s no plans to. There are things that I think about that, for me, is what makes it kind of more fun in the playing of them, you know.”
The future, as we learned from Yoda all those years ago, is always in motion. So the idea of additional details surrounding Kylo Ren’s backstory not being officially revealed in future mediums (such as that rumored animated TV series) is a very tough pill for me to swallow.
