Lucasfilm Linked to New Studio Space in East London

Fantha Tracks and Bespin Bulletin have found, via Companies House, that Lucasfilm are the sole shareholders in a new UK registered company created on July 23rd 2019, called Barking Lion Productions (UK) Limited.

The name Barking Lion Productions (UK) Limited is significant because it likely links Lucasfilm to the new twelve studio facility in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, expected to open towards the end of this year.

The new 200,000 square feet facility will be called East Brook Studios, and includes a centre of excellence for the British Film Institute (BFI) and London Film School. Lucasfilm, along with Marvel and parent company Disney, have been rumoured to be linked to the site since March. The space, directly opposite Dagenham East station, is still under construction and has already been used by Disney for Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Channel 4’s Humans and the BBC series Luther.

It is not yet known what film or TV production this new company will be used for. It could be for one of the three unnamed Star Wars films, Indiana Jones 5 which starts shooting early next year, another Disney+ series or perhaps the rumoured book adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone.

Whilst the new company seems to link Lucasfilm to the new studio space, we have yet to receive official confirmation from Lucasfilm and/or Disney.

More on this as it develops.
