Five and a half years ago, in November 2013, we learnt that Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples, members of the R2-D2 Builders Club, had been brought on by Kathleen Kennedy to recreate the droids for the new trilogy. While Steeples only worked on The Force Awakens, Towersey has gone on to work on every new Star Wars film since. Writing on Twitter yesterday Towersey, friend of Jedi News and previous guest on RADIO 1138, said goodbye to the Star Wars workshop on his final day and thanked all those he has worked with.
Goodbye from the workshop! My final day having wrapped out seems like a fitting time to retweet this. Thank you all the amazing CFX crew, @jjabrams @rianjohnson Gareth Edwards @RealRonHoward & @jjabrams again! It’s been a blast. #starwarsvii to #Starwarsix https://t.co/ZppUPBjohE

We hope that the workshop is reopened soon and more Star Wars projects are brought to life. We thank Towersey for all he’s done and wish him well, and you can meet him at Star Wars Celebration Chicago next month.
