We’ve all known for quite some time now that Episode VIII will buck the time gap trend seen in all previous Star Wars theatrical films and pick up immediately where it’s predecessor (2015’s The Force Awakens) left off. Earlier this year, director Rian Johnson even teased us with an image of the opening title crawl for The Last Jedi being worked on.

So with TLJ opening right where TFA ended, what type of plot details could/should the crawl contain? As some people have wondered, is an opening crawl technically even needed given the film’s close proximity to Episode VII? Rian Johnson shares a few details on this subject matter in the brief interview segment below that he conducted with MTV News at Celebration Orlando 2017. Oh, and while you’re at it, why not enjoy the official trailer one more time.
