They gave us some real treats leading up the the debut of Episode VIII and now Entertainment Weekly continues their coverage of The Last Jedi with new content acquired during a post-screening Q&A session that took place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
First up is director Rian Johnson and Mark Hamill talking about the return of Luke in a prominent role to the Star Wars saga for the first time in 34 years, including the scene at the end of the film that EVERYONE is talking about.
Next, Johnson and Hamill discuss the return of Yoda in Episode VIII, portrayed once again by the iconic Frank Oz. Keeping the inclusion of Yoda under wraps was no easy task, and his appearance in the film to go along with Luke becoming one with the Force tugged massively at the heartstrings.
The Last Jedi gives us a look at General Leia tapping into the power of the Force to save herself from certain doom. Johnson talks about the decision to include that powerful scene in the film as well as seeing Fisher as Leia and Hamill as Luke on screen together for one final time.
Lastly, towards the end of Episode VIII, Kylo Ren reveals the “truth” about Rey’s parents to her after their epic lightsaber tag team against Snoke and his Praetorian Guards. But is what Kylo told her the real truth about her parentage? Is there more than meets the eye on this subject? Johnson discusses the possibility of more answers coming in the future with Episode IX.
