When actress Gina Carano was informed that she had been selected as part of the official cast for The Mandalorian Disney+ live-action series, she initially thought she would be playing the part of a strong female Wookiee character. Turns out series creator Jon Favreau had a much different character in mind for Carano as she portrays ex-Rebel Shocktrooper Cara Dune instead. Carano’s Dune made her debut in The Mandalorian with Chapter 4 titled “Sanctuary” (official images from this episode can be found here) directed by Bryce Dallas Howard.
Carano spoke with with Vanity Fair’s Still Watching podcast about her time working with Howard and if you were wondering if we’ll be seeing more of Cara Dune in the future, that answer is yes as Carano is currently working on filming for Season 2.
“I thought I was going to be like the female Chewbacca,” Carano says of getting the call to join The Mandalorian. “I was ready to put on the fur outfit and be the female version of that. That’s what I thought. I was surprised to find that I was one of the few people that you were actually going to see her face—and in a lot of scenes, sometimes the only face, which is pretty incredible.” Carano is, perhaps, hinting at the future of her character. Fans of Cara Dune will be pleased to know that despite the Mandalorian leaving her behind to peacefully sip spotchka on Sorgan this week, the character will return. In fact, Carano is currently busy filming season two of The Mandalorian.
