As announced over the weekend, Lucasfilm released the final trailer for director J.J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker during halftime of ESPN’s broadcast of Monday Night Football featuring the New England Patriots and New York Jets.
Tickets for Episode IX went up for sale earlier and StarWars.com has the details on the special offers, events, and giveaways across the popular theater chains. And to cap off all this TROS goodness? The trailer was released on the birthday of the late, great Carrie Fisher who left a gaping hole in our hearts back in 2016 at the way-too-early age of 60.
The first trailer and official title for Episode IX were released back in April during Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019. Several months later, a sizzle reel debuted for attendees during D23 Expo 2019 at the end of August along with this gorgeous poster featuring Rey and Kylo Ren locked in a precarious lightsaber battle with the Emperor looming ominously overhead.
Lucasfilm announced the star-studded cast for Episode IX at the end of July 2018. A few days later, Abrams and crew began filming on the project which continued till the completion of principal photography towards the middle of February.
The Rise of Skywalker lands in theaters December 20.
