And there you have it folks. Confirming all the previous reports/rumors, Lucasfilm announced on Friday at D23 Expo 2019 that Ewan McGregor will in fact be back as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in a brand new series slated for Disney+. While on stage at the event, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was joined by Ewan in front of a jubilant crowd and said the scripts for this new series have been completed and that production is scheduled to kickoff sometime next year.
According to this post on StarWars.com, the Kenobi series will take place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, a time period that no doubt will provide a fertile ground for all new adventures to tell.
The Disney+ panel was the first to announce an all-new Star Wars series in development, one that many fans have been asking to see since the closing scenes of 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi, electrified the audience when he emerged following the announcement of his involvement in a new series taking place eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, where we last saw Obi-Wan delivering the infant Luke Skywalker to his Tatooine homestead.
Stay tuned for more on this Disney+ series as it happens.
