Darth Maul has been in the running for my all time favorite character for about 13 years now. When The Phantom Menace came out and we got to see a new Sith character for the first time I was hooked. Part of it may have to do with the double bladed lightsaber and one of the best lightsaber battles we have ever seen. Some of it also may have had to do with the design and look of the character.
The emergence of Darth Maul got me very interested in the Zabrak race and where they came from. All I can say is thank goodness for The Clone Wars. Darth Maul’s early demise in The Phantom Menace left fans of his like me thirsty for more. With his return in The Clone Wars and the arrival of his brother, Savage Opress it has been a very exciting time for a Darth Maul fan.
I also must give thanks to the character because it introduced me to Ray Park and I have in turn become a fan of his as well. Meeting Ray Park was one of the highlights of my Star Wars journalistic career. I am also very much looking forward to one day meeting Sam Witwer as he is the voice of new Darth Maul that has been fabulous to watch on Saturdays!
