Characters I Hold Dear: Jedi: Aayla Secura

Aayla Secura has been my favorite Jedi since I first encountered her in the comic books. There was so much to her and it also helped that she was Twi’lek. This was a species that I had always been very curious about. One of things I loved about her is that her rise in the ranks of the Jedi happened during The Clone Wars.

With the prequels giving us more to that story I was hopeful that she would make an appearance. She did make appearances in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith which made me very happy and very sad all at the same time. I had hoped she may have a speaking role in the films. I was however shocked with her death in Revenge of the Sith on such a beautiful planet. However, this ending to her life seemed so fitting as she was just as exotic as the planet, what a beautiful place to die.

One of the things I have always admired about her is that no matter how close she got to her inner Dark Side she always persevered and turned towards the light. This has always given me hope that we as people can always turn towards our light side. I think I have always admired the skills that she has in combat and more specifically with her lightsaber. Her strength, courage and tenacity have always inspired me and I would love to one day name my daughter after her as many other Star Wars fans have done. In Ryl the word Aayla means Smoke or Mist which I think gives the name even more allure. She will always be a part of the reason that I gained the courage to be such an open and proud Fangirl.
