We’ve seen the helmet and armour and know she commands respect but we have yet to see Captain Phasma without the mask. There’s a chance that might change, as the Vanity Fair images show Gwendoline Christie without the helmet. Think back to the pre-Force Awakens images, which showed Adam Driver without his Kylo Ren mask. In the film, we did see him sans mask, so could Phasma be going down the same route in The Last Jedi?
Pablo Hidalgo addressed the rumour at last weekends Comic Con de Chile, and he didn’t dismiss the idea.
Lucasfilm Story Group executive Pablo Hidalgo addressed this particular photograph at the Comic Con de Chile during his spotlight panel, during which he hinted that Phasma would be unmasked in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
As documented by PrensaImperial, who were present at the panel, Hidalgo said we might see Phasma’s face in Episode VIII, the character might not appear as she does in that particular photograph. Hidalgo said that though Phasma is a woman, she might not appear with Christie’s facial likeness—that photo in the Vanity Fair spread was a behind the scenes portrayal.
So, no confirmation that Phasma will look exactly like Gwendoline, but a fairly strong hint that we will see Phasma without the mask. We will find out in 198 days time.
