In the US on Tuesday, The Last Jedi passed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Dark Knight to become the 6th highest ranked film. To break the top 5 in the US, and surpass Marvel’s The Avengers, it needs to take another $79 million. We think it has just enough steam to do that, but it remains to be seen whether it can gross the additional $29 million needed to catch Jurassic World (at number 4).

In terms of worldwide gross The Last Jedi currently (as of Tuesday night) sits at number 18, just behind Skyfall, and is expected to jump past Minions to sit in 13th place by the end of this weekend. This does not take into account the box office take from China where it opens today. It’s a further $55 million jump to 12th place on the list, currently occupied by Iron Man 3 which took a total of $1,214 billion.

Whilst we believe The Last Jedi will break the worldwide top 10, unless its total in China is larger than predicted we think the top 5 may just be out of reach, finishing with a total gross of around $1.35 to $1.5 billion. The next few days in China will be very interesting indeed. More analysis as figures come in.
