Worlds Largest Lightsabre Lights Ignites Over London

Take an icon like the BT Tower and convert it into the World’s Biggest Lightsabre to celebrate the release of Star Wars – The Complete Saga on Blu-ray – what an amazing idea that was so well executed by all those involved.  More than sixty 4,500 watt lights, standing 1.3 metres high and weighing 124 kilos combined to form a solid beam of light visible across the capital.  Click on each image for a closer look.

As stars arrived on the Blu carpet they had the oppurtunity to be photographed with Darth Vader, R2-D2 and a legion of Stromtroopers (all from the 501st).  Guests included Anthony Daniels, Charlotte Church, Gail Porter, Havana, Jerome Blake, Jonathan Powell, Mark Dolan, the Blue Peter Presenters, Warwick Davis, members of Kasabian and Snow Patrol, and the editor of Star Wars Insider Jonathan Wilkins.

At around 20:40 Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO in all six Star Wars films, pressed the button to ignite the lightsabre and change London’s skyline.  It was to be a day long remembered.

Big thanks to Fox, Lucasfilm and Substance PR for all their help and for inviting us to the coolest party ever at the top of the BT Tower.
