As the industry prepares for the release of Episode IX at the end of the year, it will come as no surprise that no new products were on display at Toy Fair UK at Olympia. Everything on display had already been solicited or previously announced.
Last year Hasbro only exhibited behind the scenes at Toy Fair and this year they did the same. Press weren’t allowed to visit although we did have a coffee and catch up with the Hasbro team at the show. Unfortunately, there’s nothing from that meeting we can share at the moment. We did ask about the Sail Barge and its arrival in the UK and Europe, and we’re hoping to get an update on that at next months New York Toy Fair (along with lots of other news).
LEGO make a welcome return to Toy Fair UK after an absence last year. LEGO were similar to Hasbro in that press were not allowed to tour their booth. We got as far as the reception area and we had a chat with their PR team, but that was that. Expect news from LEGO at the New York Toy Fair across all their themes including Star Wars. Numerous large scale brick built minifigures from The LEGO Movie 2 were on display around the show. Congratulations to LEGO who won an award for The LEGO Movie 2: Movie Maker (set #70820) as one of Toy Fair’s Hero Toys for 2019.
Re:creation make LEGO light up products based on various licences, including Star Wars and The LEGO Movie 2. Various products from both properties were on display, although nothing new for Star Wars beyond the four products shown. There’s lots of products coming for The LEGO Movie 2 including luggage tags, LED lights, keyrings and more.
