Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland To Open in June As Per Bob Iger

WDW News Today directs our attention to this Barron’s article that includes a quote from Disney CEO Bob Iger in which he states the doors to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland are scheduled to open in the month of June.

In an interview with Barron’s, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger let it slip that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland will invite guests in starting June 2019. Based on Deluxe Annual Passholder and Southern California Annual Passholder blockout dates, it’s anticipated that the land is likely to open the weekend of June 21st-23rd, with soft opening previews to occur over weekends throughout the month leading up to the opening.

Here is a copy of the exchange between Barron’s and Iger that mentions the June release time frame (via WDW Info):

Barron’s: Do you still feel like you can bring more people through the parks, or is it more about growing ticket prices?

Iger: In some, you get more repeat visitation and increased length of stay because there’s more to do. You get more capacity. When Star Wars opens in Anaheim in June and in Florida later in the year, that’s adding capacity. You’re adding 14 acres of land [each], more rides, and more things for people to do. It’s the biggest land we’ve ever built. We’re just getting higher demand on our product spread throughout the year. That gives you pricing leverage. But what we’re also trying to do is be much smarter about pricing strategy, to try to spread attendance and reduce attendance in the peak periods so we can improve guest satisfaction. Crowding is an issue.

We learned back in May that Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland would be officially opening sometime during the summer of 2019 followed by a late fall opening for the park in Walt Disney World. Based on Iger’s comments made in the Barron’s piece, we now have a tighter release time frame for the west coast park opening. Stay tuned for the official Galaxy’s Edge opening dates (for both park locations) once they are announced by Disney.
