Carl Weathers on Bounty Hunters, Carbonite Freezing in The Mandalorian

There were a lot of intriguing moments to dig into in the new trailer for The Mandalorian, but one that especially stood out to us was a series of figures frozen in carbonite, seemingly held in storage by the Disney+ series’ central bounty hunters.

This offered up an interesting tease at the state of the world in The Mandalorian, set after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. It seems as though Boba Fett wasn’t the only bounty hunter who used the carbonite trick to deliver cargo in such a manner to the person paying for it. (There have been a number of instances of carbonite freezing in various Star Wars comics, games and novels, but none as memorable as Boba Fett’s.)

After the trailer dropped, IGN had a chance to catch up with Carl Weathers, who plays Greef, a person who hires bounty hunters and dispatches them on jobs across the galaxy. (You can watch the interview above.) He explained that bounty hunters use carbonite as “one of the punishments” in their arsenal.
